Also known as takotsubo cardiomyopathy or stress-induced cardiomyopathy, broken heart syndrome occurs when a person experiences acute stress, which then leads to rapid and reversive heart muscle weakness. It is a temporary heart condition that’s triggered by stressful events and emotions.
