1. Layer On The Legwear
Whether they take center stage in the grand scheme of your outfit or lie beneath the surface of your jeans for added warmth, tights should be your BFF during the winter months. Certainly, the struggle to resist curling up in sweatpants is realthis time of year, but rely on tights (and even chunky knitted socks!) to shield you from the cold. They make it easier to dress up for special events or work functions–especially when you layer on multiple pairs.
2. Apply Layering Rule to…Everything Else
That’s right; layer it all on. When you’re trekking through cold, blustery wind in a city whose streets are exposed to zero sunlight (Hello, New York!) youneed layered everything. Pile jackets on sweaters on blouses on camisoles (mindfully, of course) for a simultaneously warm and chic look.
3. Rely On Accessories With Zest
You’d be hard-pressed to find an outfit that doesn’t benefit from a little bit of accessorizing, and in the winter months, there are so many pile-on options. Plaid scarves, hats with pom poms, leather gloves, and oversized fur-ball earmuffs are too fun to resist, and give an otherwise drab wintery look some personality. Play around with how you style these add-ons, too: for example, belt a scarf instead of wrapping it, as shown here.
