A House Built Around Trees

A House Built Around Trees

When a family of six bought land in a protected forest in Poland, they knew building a home there wouldn’t be easy. Local ordinances required that they didn’t disturb any of the many skinny, tightly-packed trees that already called the space home. And to that, the family, and their architect, Jakub Szczęsny of Centrala Designers Task Force, said “challenge accepted.”

The result of the architect’s uber-creative design efforts, which we spotted on Dezeen this week, is a home that truly feels one with the landscape. Not only does it have a raised floor to allow roots to grow, but the glass enclosures give the inside an airy feel, and the blocky layout actually succeeds in maximizing the space. The homeowners also decorated the interior with bright colors, sleek modern lines, and unexpected details, like bold pendant lights, which look striking juxtaposed against the organic surroundings.
